Kurtis Carpenter

Mr. Carpenter is a Mason County native, born and raised on a dairy farm in Orangeburg.  While living the farm life, he joined the Royals Band as a 5th grade student, choosing trombone (because that is obviously the coolest instrument ever), and staying in the Royals Band until graduation.  He earned his Bachelor’s of Music Education from Morehead State University, performing in many ensembles while enrolled, including Jazz I, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Trombone Choir, among many others.  He received a Master of the Arts degree in Education at University of the Cumberlands.

Carp (as he is affectionaly called by his students) still plays professionally to this day, and has played with the Miles of Jazz Orchestra, the DiMartino/Osland Jazz Orchestra, Dynasty Big Band, the Lexington Brass Band, the Bluegrass Wind Ensemble, and various other groups around the area.

His teacher career began in Jackson, KY at Sebastian Middle School, and steered through Bellevue Independent before he arrived back home at Mason County.  He proudly offeres Jazz Band, Percussion Ensemble, Marching Band, and Concert Band to all High School Students as daily classes for credit, as well as directing all Middle School Bands.

On his free time, Carp enjoys serenading strangers on 2nd street downtown with his mad bass trombone prowess.
